Farm/Barn History:
The farm started eight (8) generations ago, by William Mackey. He originally owned over 800 acres in and around White Township, NJ. The property has been sub-divided by various family members over the years and currently it is a 96 acre orchard.
The orchard was first planted by Levi C. Mackey, in the early 1900's, to add income to his large dairy farm operation. Prior to this, Mackey's Farm was primarily field crops, potatoes, pigs and cows. Levi's son, Robert Sr. and his wife Virginia, expanded the farm operation in the 1950's by adding cold storage facilities and a packing house. They also moved the old chicken coop across the street and used it as the road-side stand in which to sell their produce.
In 1981, Robert Jr. and his wife Beatrice purchased the farm and expanded it even more by moving the farm stand into the packing house thus creating the first farm store. They also added a cider press and a bakery that became locally famous for homemade pies and cider donuts.
In 1998, Robert Jr.'s son Devlen and his wife Holly (the eighth generation) purchased the farm and have been expanding it ever since. The farm today includes: a farm market, seasonal items for sale, a bakery, fresh cider in September, pick-your-own crops, an ice cream barn, and a haunted house each weekend in October.
